With its rich history, the Vendée shares its heritage with you through medieval castles, dwellings and more.

Château d'Apremont

Just 15 minutes from the campsite, the majestic Château d'Apremont towers over you with all its history.

The château is one of the most important Renaissance castles in the Vendée. Built in the 16th century on an ancient medieval fortress, it overlooks the river Vie.

To enhance the visit to the two towers and the chapel, a permanent exhibition retraces the history of the monument through a sound and light show.

Every year, the château hosts a " château en fête ". Around a banquet, you'll be immersed in the Renaissance, with shows and entertainment.

Château des Aventuriers

Just 45 minutes from the campsite, discover the Château des Aventuriers. The Château des Aventuriers is both a 16th- and 18th-century castle and a 3-course enigma park for the whole family.

  • Pirate's treasure: go in search of Blackbeard's treasure . Sound effects and background music immerse you in the world of Jack Sparow
  • Castle secrets: use a smartphone or tablet app to solve the castle's secrets.

Logis de la Chabotterie

This magnificent dwelling, 45 minutes from the campsite, takes you back to 18th-century country life. The logis de la Chabotterie witnessed the Vendée wars, and in particular the arrest of General Charrette in 1796. A green path retraces the story of Charrette, on the spot where he was captured.

The 9 rooms have been furnished using archive inventories. The "Charrette Interactive Space " has been specially designed to explain the Vendée Wars and the role of General Charrette. Numerous activities are on offer: shows, guided tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, etc. Throughout the year, special events allow visitors to experience the site in a different way.

Noirmoutier Castle

Located on the island of Noirmoutier, 1 h from the campsite, the Château de Noirmoutier was the main defense system for the island's monks and population against the Vickings.

During the French Revolution, it was used as a military prison, then as barracks in the 19th century. During the World Wars, it was once again used as a prison. Today, the keep houses the Château de Noirmoutier museum. One of the best preserved in the Vendée, it has stood the test of time and the turmoil of war.

Every August , the Noirmoutier en l'île festival takes place at the château, with theatrical performances and musical concerts.

Bazoges en Pareds keep

The Bazoges dungeon, 1 h from the campsite, is a pause in time, as if stuck in the Middle Ages. Discover daily life at the time of Joan of Arc, through the dungeon's 6 furnished floors. Young and old alike can step back in time several centuries by visiting a 19th-century dwelling, a bakehouse and a forge. You'll find furniture and numerous objects.

After your visit, let yourself dream in the alleys of the medieval garden. Here you'll find medicinal, vegetable, aromatic and magical plants.

Once at the top of the keep, admire the view over the garden and the Vendée countryside.

Terre Neuve Castle

In Fontenay le Comte, 1 h from the campsite, discover a magnificent Renaissance château, built at the end of the 16th century. Still inhabited today, the château boasts magnificent sculptures, incredible fireplace mantels and landscaped grounds.

New for 2018, discover the new museum around the history of the château and Octave de Rochebrune in the outbuildings. You can admire objects, furniture, paintings and period clothing.

Enhance your discovery with a smartphone and tablet-based treasure hunt: The Mystery of Newfoundland. In July and August, enjoy a picnic in the garden after your visit.

Talmont Castle

Located 30 minutes from the campsite, this medieval fortress built by Richard the Lionheart is an invitation to travel back in time. You'll visit the keep accompanied by a guide who will tell you all about this magnificent Vendée castle.

During the summer, you can enjoy a variety of shows retracing the history of Richard the Lionheart and Eleanor, as well as workshops in calligraphy, costume-making, pony-trekking, crossbow shooting and medieval games.

To go even further, become an investigator and escape from the underground! This escape game combines strategy and teamwork. The aim? Eleanor of Aquitaine has given you a mission: to find the King of England. You'll have just 60 minutes to solve 12 riddles and escape.
